This year at Labour party conference was yet another successful one for LFPME. Building on our events from previous years we were privileged to host a range of speakers at our fringe, including Jon Ashworth MP and Nadia Hijab of al Shabaka.
The highlight of our conference activities came once again at the annual LFPME conference reception. Whilst a highlight for our famed food and Palestinian Taybeh beer, the focus of the evening was certainly on speeches from Labour party leader, Jeremy Corbyn, Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry and His Excellency the Palestinian Ambassador, Manuel Hassassian.
Labour Leader, Rt Hon Jeremy Corbyn reminded guests of his strong commitment to Palestinian rights, noting that human rights and social justice would be at the heart of a Labour foreign policy.
He went on to say “I was very proud to vote for that Palestinian recognition motion when it came before the House of Commons because I believe the Palestinian people need and deserve the recognition. It will help to bring about a long term recognition by the rest of the world and a real peace process that ends the occupation”.
