LFPME welcomes new Shadow Cabinet

LFPME welcomes Yvette Cooper as Shadow Foreign Secretary and Harriet Harman as Shadow International Development Minister

The Labour Friends of Palestine & the Middle East (LFPME) welcomes the appointment of Yvette Cooper MP to the post of Shadow Foreign Secretary and Harriet Harman MP to the post of Shadow Secretary of State for International Development.

The need to secure peace and justice in the Middle East should be one of our top foreign policy priorities.  The failure of the international community to bring peace and fairness after the repeated promises, policy initiatives and road maps has reinforced a climate of mistrust and led to increased instability and insecurity in the region.

The people in the Middle East need a Labour Party with a strong voice in Britain to lead the fight for justice and help provide hope for millions in developing countries.  We will need to work together to press the Coalition Government to take the necessary steps that support a genuine peace process to achieve a just settlement for the Palestinians that fully respects international law.

LFPME looks forward to engaging with the new Shadow Foreign Secretary and Shadow Secretary of State at the earliest opportunity.
